Back on the road again

We are just about to change this blog into Te Wherowhero.  Everyone in class is about to start up their blogs again.

They are going to write about something that they did that was interesting.

Then they are going to post a blog to each other.

What am I proud of this 2019?

My friend Lyrick told me that she is proud of her family because they tried new things that they haven't done before.  I interviewed Ricky and he was proud of his performances in the Pirates Rugby team.  They didn't win the competition but they tried really hard each week.  Ricky was a back and he scored lots of tries. I interviewed Ava and she was really proud of performing her speech in te reo Maori.  It was really scary but she did it and came first place for the year 5's!

Merry Driftwood and a Happy New Year!

Hi everyone,

We have just made some xmas tree's to celebrate the end of the year.  First we collected driftwood, then we found a centre pole (tomato stakes).  Then we found lots of shells for decorations.  Lastly we needed tools.  Drills, saws, hammers, and pure muscle or pipi power.
We are going to put our tree's up in class during our interviews and then put them up in local businesses.

Welcome to Term Four

We think it's time for an update!  So much has happened already this term and it's already week 4!  The last term of the year is flying by!

In Te Whare Waipaoa, we have had a new teacher start with us.  His name is Matua Raniera.  We have had a change in our Manaiakalani Facilitator too - Kōka Amie is coming to work with us now.  Last time she was here, we were creating our Digital Maps, that we used our History to make.  We were learning about what a positive digital footprint looks like.  See what types of sites we've been using in our learning by looking at our maps on our individual blogs.

Some other things that have happened this term are:
Our trip to Eastwood Hill - it was amazing! 
Our Athletics Day, which we had today! It is so hot here in Gisborne.

Our weather temperature is taken out at our local airport which cooler than what it actually is at our kura.  It felt much hotter here. Now we are all inside with the aircon on, cooling down!  We all enjoyed different parts of athletics.  Some of us liked the high jump, some of us enjoyed the long jump, and some of us loved the tennis throw or the sprints!

We have also been to Swim for Life at the Enterprise Pools.  We learned how to float for three minutes... it was important to learn how to keep balanced.

We also had a Halloween Disco!  Some of us dressed up!  Some of the things we dressed up as were: a devil, a jester, a vampire and lots of other scary things! 

Another thing  some of us have been doing is going to touch at Barry Park on a Monday afternoon.   We played Awapuni.

It with a degree of sadness that I am writing to inform everyone that I will no longer be the teacher in Te Whare Waipaoa.
I have been appointed to the Regional Manager's position at Stand, Tū Maia Children's Services in Gisborne and will take up this new position on Monday 30th September.
I am sad because the children in Te Whare Waipaoa are AMAZING, OUTSTANDING students to work with with and I will miss them dearly.
We are very lucky to announce that Matua Raniera is taking over the reins of our class. There are very few people that I trust and this man is one, so we are very, very fortunate e hoa mā.
Roll Call - Class of 2019:
Mahonri - the All Black of Room 1. Watch this space whānau and keep an ear out for this name, he is going to the top!
Elijah - Mr Determination! He may be small in stature, he will take on any person of any size on the rugby field!
Dayna - Miss Personality - Dayna has character to burn! Funny, fun to be with but man can play sports well.
Joshua - Mr Richie McCaw - if there is one person that is able to make 3 tackles in a a row and then win the ball for us it is Josh!
Kiri - Miss Science Warrior - her experiment about the EColi levels in the water was mind blowing. A scientist in the making.
Nela - Miss All rounder - Not only is she really brainy and talented at everything, she remains so humble with everything she does. Success will follow her.
Shiloh - Mr Performer - This man was born to perform!!! Talented speaker, dancer and really funny!
Asher - Mr Potential - this young man has potential to burn - very intelligent and good at sports!!!
Vypa - Matua Vypa - a very special young man with a heart for everyone. His speech was a highlight.
K'Myah - Miss Olympics - watch this space e hoa mā, she is going to represent New Zealand at the Olympics in running
Lyrick - Miss Manners - this young lady is so polite and well mannered, what a pleasure to teach in class.
Lewis - Mr Leader - Student Leader extraordinaire, oozes leadership and mana at school.
Ava - Miss Manu Kōrero - her first year and wins the Year 5 section of the Te Reo Māori competition. Love you more!
Mihiata - Miss Helpful - will do anything for anyone if needed, reliable and loyal. Lovely young lady.
Jazmin - Miss Patroller of the Year - Jazz always fills in when needed and goes above and beyond!
Ricki - Mr Success of 2019 - what an awesome young man!!! Talented and such an awesome young boy.
Tūmatauenga - Mr Reliable - Tū always helps those in trouble and whenever help is needed!!! Loyal and committed.
Reef - Mr Maths - WOW, this young man is a Mathematician PLUS, sharp, fast and accurate.
Sonny - Mr Humour - Has the greatest sense of humour and best speech of the year.
Logan - Mr Settled - joined us from another school and has settled in very well to our class.
Eva - Miss Pride - ko Whetuamatarau tōnā Maunga! She stands tall just like her Maunga!
Mahia - Miss Confidence - she is very strong in her conviction and believes in what she shares.
Reuben - Mr Tough - as tough as they come, strong, fast and light of foot, player of the future.
Manihera - Mr Heart - has the biggest heart in Room 1. Always there for his class mates.
Sarah-Lea - Miss ICT Expert - she has helped so many children with their ICT journey - graphics designer in the making.
Also to Matua Herman, the Jedi master of the ICT world, I am so grateful for the way in which you have supported this kaupapa with myself and the children of Te Whare Waipaoa. Your collaborative, non-intrusive, encouraging approach has been a hallmark of your personality. I will miss our catch ups e hoa.
To the Sis, Kōkā Joanne, you know!!!
I will miss you all very much kids.
